Megan Dredge - The Essential Ingredient To Remaining Passionate

I’m often asked why I am so positive and passionate about being a teacher. Many times after I speak, the number one piece of feedback I receive always has to do with my passion. Yes, it’s really encouraging.

But, it’s got me thinking. WHY am I so passionate? Why do I love what I do? Why has my passion for teaching and education remained so strong?

I think I can sum it up in one word.

Yes one, word.

GRATITUDE.

I am grateful for this incredible privilege I have to shape young lives, to build the adults of the future, to be part the journey of many students (and now, many teachers).

Without gratitude we see the glass as half empty.

Without gratitude we are always wanting more, not being thankful for what we have.

Without gratitude we will resent our job rather than be thankful for the incredible privilege we have to influence others.

Do you feel like you have lost your passion? Have your words and thoughts become negative and critical? Then here’s what you need to do this week:

This week’s assignment:

Each day, think about what you can be thankful for. Think about all the reasons why your life is so good. (I find when I intentionally do this, my ‘list’ is never-ending. I think about the fact that I have running water and food and clothes and family… And that’s just the beginning!)

So this week, be grateful. Your life is actually awesome. And being a teacher is actually a huge privilege and so incredibly rewarding.

Enjoy the journey,

And more importantly,

Enjoy the moments.

🙂
