The floor mat in the school foyer immediately grabbed my attention: “Changing the world one child at a time.” We talk about changing the world. We dream about changing the world. But sometimes it seems like such a complex, unreachable goal. However, right there on the floor of this local school was a simple and achievable strategy to reach that goal: change the world one child at a time.

Teachers are in the world changing business. Every child we teach has the potential to impact their world. Every student in our class represents the change the world needs. Every boy and girl, every teenager, and every graduate has an inbuilt capacity to be the change we want to see in the world. Changing the world isn’t such a daunting task when we take a view of one-child-at-a-time.

This week’s assignment:

The next time you enter your classroom, instead of seeing the whole class, look at each individual and look at each one as a world changer. Changing the world no longer needs to be a complex unreachable goal. It becomes simple and achievable by embracing this truth: change the world one child at a time.

Enjoy the journey,

And more importantly,

Enjoy the moments.
